6 July (Thursday)
- Log of the Demeter: A Russian schooner known as the Demeter takes off from Varna, carrying a cargo of silver sand and boxes of "experimental earth." Unbeknownst to the crew, the Count is aboard in one of his earth boxes.

19 July (Wednesday)
- Jack Seward: Renfield now holds the attention of a colony of sparrows. He begs Dr. Seward for a pet kitten, claiming his salvation depends on it, but Seward refuses, suspecting that this will cause his sparrows to be disposed of in much the same fashion as his spiders.
20 July (Thursday)
- Jack Seward: Renfield's sparrows disappear overnight. He becomes violently ill and eventually vomits a large quantity of feathers. Seward gives him an opiate that evening and looks at his pocketbook, discovering that he has been keeping tallies of the number of lives each animal consumes.

- Log of the Demeter: The Demeter enters Bay of Biscay, and it is discovered that another man has disappeared during the night watch, renewing the feelings of panic and ill ease amongst the crew. They give the captain a petition requesting that there be a double watch, as they are all afraid of being on deck at night alone.
25 July (Tuesday)
- Mina Murray: [Possible dating error: Mina dates this entry "1 August," but it appears to describe events taking place between 24 July and 26 July.] Mr. Swales continues his cynical refutation of Whitby superstitions and engages in a rambling speech about how many of the gravestones in St. Mary's churchyard are empty, their occupants having drowned at sea such that their bodies were never recovered. At one point, he explains that the grave Lucy is sitting on that day is actually that of a suicide whose death was re-framed as an accident.
Mina closes her diary entry by confessing a growing unease about the lack of news she's had from Jonathan.
26 July (Wednesday)
- Mina Murray: Mina mentions that Lucy has resumed her childhood habit of sleepwalking, but she hopes it will cease once Arthur comes to visit her. Her worries about her own fiancé continue to plague her, even after Peter Hawkins has forwarded her the second of the letters Jonathan was forced to write under duress (dated 12 June).
